Advocacy Boot Camp

Presented by the B.L.A.C.K. Organizing Program and Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi

Planned Parenthood of TN and North MS (PPTNM) and the B.L.A.C.K. Organizing Program (BOP) are excited to introduce the Advocacy Bootcamp!

The Advocacy Bootcamp is designed to engage minority communities through foundational training in advocacy, reproductive rights, and the legislative process. As our political climate becomes increasingly authoritarian, Black and Brown communities continue to be among the most impacted. This bootcamp is crafted to equip emerging Black and Brown advocates with the knowledge and tools needed to protect our rights and defend our communities.

The Advocacy Bootcamp is ideal for individuals with little to no prior advocacy experience, or those seeking a refresher on how local and state governments function.

Participants will learn to identify key issues, track legislation, and advocate effectively— for themselves and for their communities. The training centers reproductive freedom and social justice, providing practical skills to navigate and influence policy spaces with confidence.

The bootcamp also introduces strategies for impactful outreach, building partnerships with local organizations, and breaking down complex legislative topics into accessible language.

Participants will be encouraged to take active roles in advocacy by staying informed, speaking out, and sharing what they’ve learned within their own communities.

We hope that participants stay engaged with PPTNM and continue their advocacy journey beyond completion of the bootcamp. Our goal is to sustain long-term involvement in movement work by encouraging participants to either create their own local Action Council or Impact Circle and to become a volunteer with the B.L.A.C.K. Organizing Program.
